Can anyone help me identify a carcano? 40' Long, markings are SG inside an oval, crown over a shield inside a circle, serial number A H 5623, Terni with CAL?5, 18 with a name i can't make out?All??Al and AT on the bottom ritght facit. SIght goes up to 2000 yrds. This doesnt have the metal adaptor on the forestock. That seems to be a Fucile 91/41, probably reworked post-war (hence the discrepancy between butt and barrel numbers), sporterized and rechambered to 6.5x54 Mannlicher-Schoenauer with British civilian proof for use as a hunting rifle. The M-S is a good cartridge, but is now probably more difficult to find than Carcano ammo (which is made by PRVI). The guard and front sling mount are painted a flat golden color. The breech end of the barrel is stamped with 3 numbers a hyphen and 3 roman numerals, Gardone V.T., 2 letters 1 number a space and 3 numbers(I believe 6 markings to be the serial number) and then it’s marked with the 6.5-257 indicating cal.
