Parallel and serial ports not working in Windows 10 (Version 1511) Hi Since the 1511 update myself and my customers have problems with devices connected to COMx and LPTx ports.
- The Windows.Devices.SerialCommunication namespace defines Windows Runtime classes that a Windows store app can use to communicate with a device that exposes a serial port or some abstraction of a serial port. Your Windows Store app must include device capabilities in its App package manifest. Please see this UWP sample: Serial Arduino sample.
- I observed the same on a windows 10 Professional version too! Further, a tried running a sample UWP app for serial communication from Microsoft, which still did not detect any scanners connected over RS-232 connection. However I am able to establish serial communication using a USB to RS-232 instead on both winform app and sample serial UWP app.
- Serial Monitor can be successfully used for monitoring data flow between serial devices and Windows application, debugging com port connections, developing, reverse-engineering and implementing serial protocol, serial device driver development, serial hardware development, research the functionality of any third-party software and hardware.
using python on the Raspberry PI I use similar code to what is shown below to read data from the serial port:
Essentially I just want to be able to read a message off the serial port and perform an action based on that message.
How can this be achieved using Windows 10 Core and c#, Can anyone point me in the right direction or provide a code sample?

it turns out that the Serial Port on the PI is not supported yet, which is very frustrating: https://www.raspberrypi.org/forums/viewtopic.php?t=109047&p=751638
